Charlie’s love story

Your donation supports a meeting place where artists can create, collaborate and build lasting friendships.

This year, L’imprimerie’s annual donation campaign celebrates its team of workers!

Throughout the donation campaign, we will introduce you to the team of workers, one precious person at a time, to highlight their respective expertise and include you even more in the heart of L’imprimerie. You will be introduced to each worker, as well as their love letter to L’imprimerie, printmaking and its artists.

This week we’d like to introduce you to Charlie Joubert, L’imprimerie’s reception and communications manager. Committed to his work and eager to help his colleagues and the members of the center, he is a sensitive person of great human qualities who will guide you through L’imprimerie to show you the full range of its possibilities.

We invite you to discover their love story with L’imprimerie and their artistic practice through this article.

Triptyque de l’estuaire, oil on canvas, 2022

For just over a year, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the artists’ explorations at L’imprimerie; the surprises and serendipity that arise during production. I’ve met generous members who exchange about their creative processes daily and help each other by sharing their expertise in printmaking.

The presentations and workshops I attended opened a world of creative possibilities, questioning my own artistic practice and its sustainability. I’ve been lucky enough to take part in several training courses at L’imprimerie, most recently a Photogravure course with Carlos Calado, during which I was able to better understand the work behind the print and marvel at the magic of iron perchloride! Little by little, I’m becoming familiar with the language of print and the equipment at L’imprimerie.

Biographie

Reception and communications manager at L’imprimerie, Charlie Joubert (He/they) is first and foremost a visual artist. After graduating from Concordia University, they earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing (2023). Their artistic practice is a formal and intuitive exploration of materiality. They draws inspiration from the landscapes and textures of the St. Lawrence. Sensitive to inclusivity, they completed an internship at the MAI (montréal, arts interculturels), during which they reflected on ways of making art accessible to a wide range of audiences. Today, they are involved with Écotone as co-organizer of L’incroyable Salon du Zine and continue their practices in their free-time.
