Le Chantier: portrait of artist
Étienne Tremblay-Tardif

For nearly six months now, nine artists whose approaches stem from print and photography are completing a collective research and creation residency at L’imprimerie as part of Le Chantier research project on the printed and photographic image. Utilizing the centre’s facilities allowed them to develop their personal projects while taking part in group reflection and exploration.

Aside from their work in the studio, these nine creators are currently presenting the result of their experiments to the public at the maison de la Culture Maisonneuve until November 28. L’imprimerie invites visitors to come and discover these projects throughout the exhibition.

Étienne Tremblay-Tardif

Using various reproduction techniques for text and images, Étienne Tremblay-Tardif has developed a research-oriented art practice characterized by a materialist approach.

His work in Le Chantier research project on the printed and photographic image is the continuation of a residency project started in summer 2017, at Philadelphia’s Fabric Workshop and Museum on the security printing of U.S. paper currency. Over the last few months, he has utilized L’imprimerie’s facilities to work on oversized copper plates modelled after 100 USD banknotes, among other projects.

During his residency, Tremblay-Tardif also focused on documenting the progressive deconstruction of LCD screens, as seen in a first series of images presented at the Maison de la Culture Maisonneuve.

We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts for this project.
