Le Chantier: portrait of artist
Camille Lamy

For nearly six months now, nine artists whose approaches stem from print and photography are completing a collective research and creation residency at L’imprimerie as part of Le Chantier research project on the printed and photographic image. Utilizing the centre’s facilities allowed them to develop their personal projects while taking part in group reflection and exploration.

Aside from their work in the studio, these nine creators are currently presenting the result of their experiments to the public at the maison de la Culture Maisonneuve until November 28. L’imprimerie invites visitors to come and discover these projects throughout the exhibition.

Camille Lamy

Camille Lamy’s work in Le Chantier is a continuation of her research on digital negatives, piezography, cyanotype and livres d’artistes. She is also studying the use of eco-friendly techniques, such as the use of instant coffee to develop film.

Through various experimentations, the artist examines the role of the colour blue in our representation of territory, insularity, cartography and geographical distance. For instance, she has been working on a series of photoengraving and booklet inspired by images of the Anticosti Island and Côte-Nord regions. Parallel to this research and for the entire duration of her residency, she has explored the access (or lack thereof) to the river around Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and the Port of Montreal, as she reflects on the relationship between images and what is inaccessible, invisible or concealed.

We acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts for this project.
