Alessia Canteros – CUSTOM RESIDENCY

As a multidisciplinary artist, I explore the beauty and pain of impermanence, addressing cultural narratives, personal memories, and collective experiences. Casting, as a metaphor for time, symbolizes loss, renewal, and transformation. Through ephemeral elements like water, numbers, and bubbles, I highlight the fluidity and impermanence of moments that dissipate and transform. As a neurodivergent person, I seek peace with my relationship to time, questioning societal expectations and honoring a personal rhythm that goes beyond productivity.

My work, which includes engravings, metal sculptures, drawings, and digital media, materializes the tension between dissolution and creation. It explores fragility and resilience rooted in cultural and personal stories, while reflecting the rhythmic cycles of time. Casting becomes an act of reverence and potentiality, reconciling the impermanence of memory with the enduring power of transformation and time.

Nourished by my family heritage, my creative process interrogates identity through fragments of collective memory. In this exploration, I inevitably confront the limits of the migratory experience, but I discover unexpected richness in the personal stories and intimate memories that emerge from it. Through my work, I aim to reconstruct identity from oral narratives, cultural artifacts, and fauna, creating a language that emerges from non-identity, shaped by successive migratory paths, while acknowledging the challenges related to accessing archives.
