Joëlle Côté — Turbulent Waves

As part of the residency at L’imprimerie, centre d’artistes, I will be working on an artist’s book produced through screen printing, drawing and digital printing. The title, Turbulent Waves, refers to the recent discovery of gravitational waves that were the result of the collision of two black holes.

This artist’s book will contain photographs from my personal archives and invented images, mainly landscapes and genre scenes. The places and characters in the illustrations will be affected by the eddies caused by the presence and impact force of the two black holes, and will be affected in their structure and in their relationship to time and space. The resulting images will refer to a theory by scientist Stephen Hawking regarding the possibility of the presence and preservation of information at the edge of the event horizon.
