Call for Submissions : residencies for Racialized and/or Indigenous Artists

To mark its 60th anniversary, L’imprimerie is launching two creative residencies for racialized and Indigenous artists. This initiative aims to broaden access to L’imprimerie’s specialized resources, support the development of eco-conscious artistic practices, and promote greater inclusion of racialized and Indigenous people in the visual arts.

At L’imprimerie, we define an eco-conscious approach as a deep, critical, and active awareness of the interactions between humans and their environment. By integrating environmental struggles with social, economic, and political struggles, eco-consciousness makes it possible to identify relationships of domination among humans, as well as between humans and their environment. This intersectional approach values biological, cultural, and material diversity, placing social and climate justice at the heart of artistic practices. For a more comprehensive definition of this term, please consult the publication Print Now – Arts, Ecologies, and Communities.

Two selected artists will benefit from full access to the production facilities for a flexible two-month period between June and December 2026, a group training, six hours of personalized training, and technical support from our team. These resources are intended to support their artistic research and the development of their practices in print and photographic arts. L’imprimerie encourages research and exploration as part of the studio process, with no obligation to produce finished work or meet predetermined production goals.

A public presentation will take place on October 29, 2026, offering artists the opportunity to share their studio research and engage with the community.

Inclusion and Support Policy

L’imprimerie seeks to support artists who, due to their identities or atypical backgrounds, encounter structural and systemic obstacles in their art practices. Particular attention will be given to  members of the LGBTQIA2S+ communities, to people with different abilities as well as those living with a disability or chronic illness.

L’imprimerie encourages self-identification by the artists and creators involved, in order to promote a pluralistic representation of diversity within the artist-run centre. We are aware that each person’s identity is multidimensional, changing and evolving, and that many people prefer to identify themselves in a fluid way. We encourage artists to self-identify in their own words in relation to the wheel of privilege. You can consult this reference tool to let us know your reality, in relation to one or more of these aspects, so that we can better welcome you (translation, studio visit, personalized meeting, discussion with the team, accessibility measures etc.).

For assistance or to discuss your project in order to assess its feasibility, please contact Geneviève Cadieux-Langlois, Director of Programming, by email at prog@limprimerie.art or by phone at 514-360-1244, extension 222, Tuesday to Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We will be happy to support you in preparing your application. It is also possible to visit the studio by appointment, please contact us.
