L’imprimerie invites you to the virtual exchange Leurre doré: Les monstres prennent forme et ne se ressemblent pas» with François Rioux, tuesday January 26 from 5PM to 6:30PM. Accompanied by artist-curators Caroline Boileau and Stéphane Gilot, the artist will review his interventions in L’Écrin as part of his residency conducted from August 18, 2020 to January 6, 2021.
This event will also highlight the conclusion of two years of rich projects in L’Écrin. Let’s take this opportunity to gather, cocktail in hand, to start the New Year in a festive and relaxed atmosphere!
L’Écrin is a modular architectural object and exploration space designed by Stéphane Gilot and Caroline Boileau. Over the past two years, this project aimed to bring together the artists-curators and the artists who are members of L’imprimerie, centre d’artistes to develop singular representations of their work, based on projects already in place or in development. Each project was an occasion to discuss the nature of the practice, the public presentation of an exploratory work and the notion of constraint, proposed here as an engine and stepping stone for the artistic process.
Based in Montreal since 2009, François Rioux creates situations or installations in which he practices action art. This way of playing with reality allows him to create images in the medium of his choice, whether it be sculpture, installation, creation of costumes, printing of surplus paperwork, performance or drawing. These are all vehicles he borrows from time to time to transform the image. This incessant circulation through the mediums often makes him stumble between the image and its production. Thus, the resulting images are for him transcriptions of the various ways to play with the codes and to make a space of freedom out of them.
